Glan-y-Gors (GYG)
North Wales
One of the prettiest circuits to visit, set into the side of a Welsh hill - this place is a real gem. Huge straight, massive elevation change and downhill esses. Brilliant.
Glan-y-Gors, also known as GYG Kart Circuit, is a high-speed, flowing track featuring 11 corners. Its elevation changes, fast straights, and technical sections make it one of the most demanding and rewarding circuits in the UK. Smooth lines, commitment, and throttle control are critical to mastering this layout.
The lap begins with Turn 1 (Club Corner), a fast left-hander requiring full commitment to maintain momentum. A short straight leads into Turn 2 (Compression Corner), a challenging uphill right-hander where kart balance is vital. As you crest the hill, Turn 3 (The Hook), a sharp left-hander, demands early braking and a clean exit to carry speed through the following section.
The mid-section begins with Turn 4 (Carousel), a long, sweeping right-hand corner where maintaining a consistent racing line is key. This leads directly into Turn 5 (Devil’s Elbow), a tricky left-hand kink taken at speed, requiring precise inputs to avoid unsettling the kart.
Exiting the kink, the back straight provides a chance to relax slightly before the heavy braking zone for Turn 6 (Horseshoe), a tight left-hander and an ideal overtaking opportunity. Following this, Turn 7 (The Spoon) is a double-apex right-hander that rewards patience and smooth throttle application.
The lap concludes with Turn 8 (The Dipper), a downhill left-right sequence where kart stability is key, and Turn 9 (Paddock Bend), a fast, sweeping right-hander that brings you back onto the start-finish straight.
The circuit is accessed via a winding lane off the main road, leading into a large paddock with excellent facilities. Nestled in the rolling hills of North Wales, Glan-y-Gors offers spectacular scenery and challenging elevation changes, with the track's undulating layout testing drivers at every level.
